Artistic works have groundbreaking messages covered up inside their pages that have the ability to show a thing or two. During the second 50% of the school year, we examined a bunch of books and plays, be that as it may, notwithstanding their disparities in plot and characters-the works shared a general subject for all intents and purpose. Each work finds and portrays the worldwide topic of expectation in an unexpected way.      In The Lottery, the characters can't help contradicting a dangerous custom yet tail it since they are apprehensive and will be chastised. From the start there is some opposition from the family who gets the dark ticket yet at long last there is no encounter. The characters never work together and join a group to do anything against the custom however they trust that one day the town older folks will see how over the top this demonstration they hold so profoundly to their souls is.      A Catcher in the Rye, a novel clarifying the nadir of an exclusive youngster, portrays trust in light of the fact that Holden Caufield is stuck in his very own universe that he wishes to escape. In the start of the novel, Holden tells Mr. Spencer that he feels stuck in his own reality and that he needs to split away yet can’t force himself to do it. Holden conceals his hankering to be a piece of the ordinary world by saying that everybody is fake. He trusts that one day he’ll be acknowledged and comprehended by the world for what his identity is. Be that as it may, Holden takes this subject to one more advance; he finds support toward the end. Holden sees a psychoanalyst and thusly he gallantly looks at without flinching of his concern.      In Death of a Salesman the subject of expectation is discovered through Willy’s endeavor to accomplish the American Dream and to treat his family with valor. Biff shows this topic by trusting that one day his family will value one another and be pleased with him like they used to be. Arthur Miller needs his perusers to get that in the event that they take a stab at something it can truly work out. On the off chance that Biff and Willy set aside their disparities for one minute and worked things out-without getting nonsensical they would have been returned to ordinary. What the dad and child pair doesn’t acknowledge is that the two of them would like to coexist with one another however they never talk about it so it doesn’t happen.

Overview of Excess Reactant in Chemistry

Diagram of Excess Reactant in Chemistry The abundance reactant is the reactant in a synthetic response with a more noteworthy sum than should be expected to respond totally with the constraining reactant. It is the reactant(s) that stay after a concoction response has arrived at harmony. Step by step instructions to Identify the Excess Reactant The abundance reactant might be discovered utilizing the reasonable synthetic condition for a response, which gives the mole proportion between reactants. For instance, if the fair condition for a response is: 2 AgI Na2S â†' Ag2S 2 NaI You can see from the fair condition there is a 2:1 mole proportion between silver iodide and sodium sulfide. On the off chance that you start a response with 1 mole of every substance, at that point silver iodide is the restricting reactant and sodium sulfide is the overabundance reactant. In the event that you are given the mass of reactants, first proselyte them to moles and afterward contrast their qualities with the mole proportion to distinguish the constraining and overabundance reactant. Note, if there are multiple reactants, one will be a constraining reactant and the others will be abundance reactants. Solvency and Excess Reactant In a perfect world, you could just utilize the response to recognize the restricting and overabundance reactant. Notwithstanding, in reality, solvency becomes possibly the most important factor. On the off chance that the response includes at least one reactants with low dissolvability in a dissolvable, theres a decent possibility this will influence the personalities of the overabundance reactants. Actually, youll need to compose the response and base the condition on the anticipated measure of broke down reactant. Another thought is a balance where both the forward and in reverse responses happen.

Just stop worrying about idioms and prepositions already

Theyre a waste of time. Seriously. The College Board can ask anything. There are no patterns, no logic, no way to guess whatll show up. Your main concern needs to be fully mastering the things you can control, and you cannot control prepositions. There are too many, and theyre too random. Sitting for hours trying to memorize lists of them does not constitute an effective use of your time.Making sure that you can recognize dangling modifiers, comma splices, subject-verb disagreements, pronoun disagreements, and problems in parallel structure does. Besides, there will usually be a grand total of two preposition questions on SAT Writing, and sometimes not even that. Even if you miss them, you can still score an 800. And frankly, as long youre above 750, no one really cares all that much. On occasion, people even get into top schools with get ready for this one scores in the low 700s! Now, if you have truly and thoroughly mastered every single other grammar rule tested on the SAT to the point at which you do not ever miss a single non-idiom/preposition question you can consider looking at some prepositions. But at that point, its just not really worth your time to sit there memorizing idiom after idiom when you could be doing things that will actually make you an interesting, appealing candidate to colleges (or simply an interesting person period). So please, do yourself a favor and go finish your physics homework instead.

The Interpersonal Struggles of David - Literature Essay Samples

Throughout the novella Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin, there is a struggle for David to be understood not only by society, but by himself. By showing an internal struggle in David between being able to be completely honest with the events taking place around him such as Hellas very different approach to handling life. However, David utterly unable to be true to himself and his real feelings, like whether or not to show his love for Giovanni publicly. James Baldwin shows that it is harder to critique and realize the true problems at hand when they are problems of your own. David always seems to be very clear and concise when describing what other people are doing. Throughout the novella, it becomes more and more apparent that David has a very good grasp on how to read others and their true emotions or reasoning for their actions. Baldwin makes it clear that David knows these things when David and Hella return to Paris. David describes Hellas smile as â€Å"at once bright and melancholy. Then she suddenly took my face between her hands and kissed me. There was a great question in her eyes and I knew that she burned to have this question answered at once† (Baldwin 121). This part of the novel perfectly shows that with just a small action and some body language from Hella, David knows exactly what she is feeling, and even what she is expecting out of him. It seems to be almost second nature to David to seamlessly recognize what is going on in others minds. David also shows his ability to read other people when him and Giovanni are talking about mar riage. He states that â€Å"Giovanni liked to believe that he was hard headed and that I was not and that he was teaching me the stony facts of life. It was very important for him to feel this: it was because he knew, unwillingly, at the very bottom of his heart, that I, helplessly, at the very bottom of mine, resisted him with all of my strength† (Baldwin 82). This is a very telling part of David’s relationship with Giovanni because even though he is completely in love with Giovanni, he knows it isn’t socially acceptable, so he tries to fight what he is feeling. Along with that, David realizes what Giovanni needs to make him happy, so David willingly gives up his voice and allows Giovanni to be more opinionated. Other characters throughout Giovanni’s Room take notice of David’s inability to correctly analyze his own life and situations, realizing that he tends to be too hard on himself for the most part. For example, when David turns to Jaques on advice for how to go forward, his eyes are opened for the first time to how much happier he could be in life. Jaques notices that David is in need of help at this time and says to him â€Å"Love him, love him and let him love you. Do you think anything else under heaven really matters? And how long, at the best, can it last? Since you both are men and still have everywhere to go? Only five minutes, I assure you, only five minutes, and most of that in the dark† (Baldwin 57). At this time, David was in need of support, and having an outsider look in on his situation was very helpful. Baldwin shows that with this outside help, David is able to realize how his life would be if he chose to commit to Giovanni and be truly happy. Giova nni also begins to realize that David has difficulty looking within himself when he says â€Å"you love your purity, you love your mirror. You are just like a little virgin†¦ you will never give it to anybody, you will never let anybody touch it, man or woman. You want to be clean† (Baldwin 141). At this point in Giovanni and David’s relationship, David is having doubts on whether he should be leaving Hella or not. Baldwin uses this to show that David’s internal struggle has become too much for him, and he needs a reality check from someone other than himself to see what is really happening to him. Alternatively, when David is faced with internal struggles of his own, he tends to downplay them or not be completely honest with himself on what is happening. From the very beginning of the novel, David decides to hide his true feelings from everyone. When David has his first homosexual experience with Joey, David is immediately confused of what has happened and what to do with his life as well as love life going forward. David describes a cavern that seems to open up in his mind as â€Å"black, full of rumor, suggestion, of half heard, half forgotten, half understood stories, full of dirty words. I thought I saw my future in that cavern. I was afraid. I could have cried, cried for shame and terror, cried for not understanding how this could have happened to me, how this could have happened in me.† (Baldwin 9). David is not too sure of what emotions he is feeling in this moment, and instead of choosing to share his feelings with Joey or anyone else, he suppresses them complet ely in hopes that they will fade. Similarly, David experiences many different waves of feelings and says â€Å"I simply wondered about the dead because their days had ended and I did not know how I would get through mine† (Baldwin 103). Baldwin shows that when a lot is going on in David’s life, it is hard for him to accurately deal with everything, so even thinks about what it would be like to give up completely because of his inability to be honest with himself. In conclusion, Baldwin uses the strong difference between David’s keen sense of what is going on with others compared to his lack of ability to be honest with himself as a way to show how society at this time made him feel he had to be a certain way. David hides large pieces of his life from society because he knows the unpleasant treatment he will get if he makes his relationship public information. Had the novella Giovanni’s Room taken place in present day, this internal conflict may not have even taken place, given the more accepting attitudes for all types of people in todays society.

I was struck by the faces of the students in the room—some were amused to an extent and the others were nearly expressionless—as they watched Batman pound The Joker’s head onto a table. The thought â€Å"how has the gore of movies desensitized our culture to the violence around them?† ran through my mind as I watched the students, products of our culture’s repugnant media. Statistics show, according to the American Psychiatric Association, that by eighteen years of age, an adolescent in the United States will have seen 16,000 simulated murders and 200,000 acts of violence. These figures are staggering. It would help†¦show more content†¦The other day I was at a local grocery store. I saw two men looking through the sale bin of movies. As I watched, one man picked up one movie and began reading the back. â€Å"†¦PG-13 for rape scene,† he read and then looked at his friend and said, â€Å"It should be a good one.† What kind of perverted mind would think that a rape scene makes a movie â€Å"good†? The same mind that has been subtly taken captive by a nihilistic entertainment industry that tries to convince its consumers that violence is pure amusement. This bloodshed-saturated culture ridicules the importance of life itself by making into something we laugh at for our own entertainment. When My Bloody Valentine came out last January, I had several friends that went to see it in theaters. Many came back after the movie saying that they laughed throughout the entirety of it and thought it was very funny. A movie in which a man kills twenty-two people is found humorous and people try to say that there is nothing wrong with the amount of violence being shown. Value is robbed from life when someone can kill ten or twenty people in the movie and still be a likeable and fascinated character. People have become calloused to what death and pain really mean. They have taken movies as a removed from reality; however, they are only it is only beginning to effect this world where violence has real consequences. Essay on Gun Control in America Today - 4398 Words

During the Vietnam War, more than twice as many Americans were killed with firearms in the U.S. than died in combat. Today, firearms are used in approximately 65% of the 11,000 homicides a year. Suicides are carried out via a gun 57% of the 16,600 a year (â€Å"GunCite† 49). These statistics pose the question, â€Å"Would there be that many fewer deaths if guns were banned altogether? Or would these deaths occur just the same but by other means?† Studies on both a local and a national level have shown that the majority of murders are committed by those with previous criminal records. The â€Å"crimes of passion† are not very common; rather, most murders are planned and therefore would occur no matter what weapon is to be used (â€Å"GunCite† 49).†¦show more content†¦All of the amendments in the Bill of Rights protect individual rights, why should the Second Amendment be different (â€Å"GunCite† 2)? Also, when drafting the Second Amendment , the words â€Å"for the common defense† were taken out, showing a more individual intent (Cooper 169). The statement â€Å"the right of the people† clearly shows that the forefathers of the constitution intended for the private ownership of firearms. Their interpretation of the â€Å"well regulated militia† is that of citizens being soldiers. These â€Å"soldiers† should be everyday men with the ability to resist the federal government should it become too powerful (National Rifle Association 218). According to Stephen Halbrook, it would be inconceivable that the framers of the Second Amendment would have tolerated that a free person required permission from the state or federal government to own and bear firearms. Also, it would be even more ridiculous should a free person be imprisoned for not aksing (220). If this right was to be taken away, what would be next? In reality, the Second Amendment was intended to guarantee both the states right and the i ndividuals right to keep and bear firearms. While having this right might breed certain costs, such as the crimes committed with these very firearms, restricting of private ownership of firearms would be even more costly (Halbrook 220). Differences And Difficulties In Description In Milton Essay Example For Students

Differences And Difficulties In Description In Milton Essay What is it about the human imagination that allows one to conceptualize the deepest, darkest hell yet makes it difficult to envision heaven? Even Milton had his problems with the descriptions of God and heaven in Paradise Lost as opposed to the relative ease he had with Satan and hell. William Blake said, ?The reason Milton wrote in fetters when he wrote of Angels God, and at liberty when of Devils Hell, is because he is a true Poet and of the Devils party without knowing it.? (The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, 1790) Why exactly were the descriptions of God, and heaven limited, and how are the same fetters not applicable when Milton was dealing with Satan, and hell, and why does this appeal to the reader more? From the beginning, Satan and hell have the advantage when being described verbally. In a Judeo-Christian viewpoint, evil lends itself much more readily to physical description than its counterpart because of its inherent association with the material world. On the other end of the spectrum, it is challenging to describe God or heaven with any degree of detail without referring to the corporeal world, and in doing so, committing impiety. Milton could not give, or even allude to the dimensions of God or heaven without being accused of blasphemy. As a result, God and heaven becomes intangible, or is described in vague metaphors of light and goodness. It is much easier to describe Satan with his spear that was equal to ?the tallest Pine/ Hewn on Norwegian Hills? or his shield that ?Hung on his shoulders like the Moon (Book I, line 287) than to describe a God of infinitely larger proportions. Likewise, it is much less cumbersome to raise Pandaemonium in our imaginations with its ?Doric pillars overlaid/ With Golden Architrave? (Book I, line 714-15) than to describe heaven. Therefore, the descriptions of God or heaven are sparse in comparison to the heavy description of Satan and hell. Yet another reason why Miltons voice falters when describing God or heaven is that the human imagination longs for strife. The dynamic is more captivating than the stationery. Satan is in the thick of it all. He has just been flung from heaven, and is in deep turmoil while God is enjoying his eternal rule. Hell is a newborn in contrast to the established institution of heaven. Satan and his devils in hell are the more active characters in the poem with little to lose, but much to gain with Satans venture out of hell. Much of the diabolical description in Paradise Lost is narrated in animated realistic detail whereas the heavenly descriptions are through Satans nostalgic speeches. Satans speeches give the reader a greater sense of the contrast between heaven and hell. Heaven is idealized and denied through Satans unreliable voice, which renders hazy, and imprecise images. In turn, this makes hell and its struggle more vibrant in the readers imagination, and therefore, more appealing t han heavens steady maintenance. There are many things in heaven that do not lend easily themselves to our human minds yet so much in hell that comes naturally. It is humanitys love for the volatile that makes the drama of Satans struggle so much more absorbing than the monotony of Gods stability. It is the physicality ingrained in our minds that allow us into hell, yet disengage us from heaven. It is because we are human that we readily hear the hiss of the forked-tongue, and it is because we are human that heavens universal hum often falls upon deaf ears. .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .postImageUrl , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:hover , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:visited , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:active { border:0!important; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:active , .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2 .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4260be4765855fb131ee1fa83acd43c2:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Religion As A Captor Essay

Ethics and Information Technology free essay sample

Technology In today’s information age, the issue of ethics has risen to the forefront of the business agenda. Constant innovation and advancement of Information technology, and the widespread use of information systems, has posed many challenges to the business world, and raised many ethical issues that also affect society as a whole. Ethics is a fundamental concern of every human being, and everyone should have the freedom of choice, but when this choice is taken out of your control, which is often the case with recent developments in information technology, a serious issue has arisen. Ethics must begin at the top of an Organisation. It is a leadership issue, and the chief executive must set the example. † Edward Hennessy, CEO, Allied Signal. The ease in which computer systems now share and distribute digital information among its users of one of the great success stories of modern technology, however, such technology can also give way to widespread misuse, criminal act ivity and mistreatment towards others. The growing use of information technology in E-business has had a dramatic effect on society, and many ethical issues have been raised in the areas of privacy, discrimination, piracy, bullying, employment issues and crime. In recent years, there is no denying that the revolution in information technology in all its forms has had a striking affect on how business operates, and has pushed many boundaries but along with its many benefits there is also various negative effects on society in general and people. One of the key ethical issues that raises concern among the general public, given the widespread use of Information technology is the protection of personal privacy. The wealth of information that is gathered as you surf the web, is often incomprehensible to the innocent web surfer, and with its enhanced capacity for surveillance, storage and communication, the list of potential treats to privacy are endless. The development and continued innovation of the internet, makes it possible for data to be collected, stored and retrieved, it many cases unbeknown to the user. The internet is viewed by many as a place of anonymity, were someone can slip upper the radar of watching eyes, this is far from the case, as actually you can constantly monitored, highly visible and open to violations of your privacy any time you are on the internet. Every time you visit a website, this information is captures and stored as a â€Å"cookie file† on your hard disk. â€Å"Cookies† are tiny data files that are put on your computer by interested websites when you site those sites. These â€Å"cookies† track your web browser software and your visits to the website, it will know if you have visited the website previously and will monitor your internet usage. Web-site owners or online auditing services like Doubleclick, can sell the information on cookie files and other data recorded on your internet habits to third parties for commercial profit. Many companies also log the traffic on their website, to gather marketing information about user interests, and behaviours to build up an online database. Although this information is highly valuable to companies for market research and logging internet activity, the whole area of collecting web-site information and data raises many ethical issues about individual right to privacy. This potential anonymity also poses many risks as it allows the ability to express damaging, even libellous views and opinions, about other people and organisations. Although there are many sides to this argument as opposing freedom of speech, and expression of opinion can have many ethical issues also. The whole area of social networking and how it has evolved and developed in recent times has also raised many ethical issues with privacy issues. There are many dangers when it comes to the use of social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook, especially with the growing tend for employers and potential employers to access individual accounts as ways of obtaining information. Employees should be aware of the fact that information they put on the internet may affect them and their employment opportunities in the future. The impact of social media and networks websites as it develops has had a dramatic impact on various aspects of society. For example, a former juror in a trial in the UK being convicted of â€Å"Contempt of Court† for contacting the accused in the case on Facebook, and thus prejudice the case. An Irish example of the ethical issues relating to Facebook, would be the incident of a photographer with a local newspaper the County Down Outlook was fired following the hateful comments she made about the murdered teacher Michaela Harte on her Facebook page. Photographer Suzanne Morrison said on her Facebook pages that Michaela’s murder in the island of Mauritius was â€Å"karma† and said â€Å"what goes around comes around†. These comments caused international outrage and her bosses were prompted to sack her over the harmful comments. The local reporter also wrote on the social media page that â€Å"Soldiers don’t get as much overage as she had and they are risking their lives to protect us! It’s about time this country got its priorities right!! † All of her comments were removed from the social networking site, and the newspaper later issued a statement confirmed the photographer was no longer employed by the County Down Outlook or any associated company. In late 2011, an Apple employee was also fired for making negative comments about the company on their Facebook page, the case highlights the issue that personal accounts with Facebook and Twitter that are listed as private and are deemed to be protected by confidentiality is not always the case. With this particular Apple employee their Facebook page was listed as private but another Apple employee saw the comments and reported them to a manger. The case was brought to the UK labour tribunal who upheld the right of Apple to terminate the employee. The decision by the tribunal was made on the basis that Apple was allowed to protect its commercial reputation, and Apple social policy clearly prohibits employees from discussing Apple in a negative and damaging light. And Apple was protecting its commercial reputation by terminating the employee. This case clearly emphasises the risks of social media networks and the ethical issues that occur when the potential power of social media is abused.

Stakeholder Analysis in Event Management

Stakeholder Analysis in Event Management Stakeholder Definition Stakeholders are individuals, groups of individuals or organizations that hold a special interest in an event including its operations and success. Stakeholders are a critical pillar in the success of any event. To a certain extent, stakeholders shape the manner in which event managers conduct an event.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Stakeholder Analysis in Event Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Stakeholder analysis is a process in which the event managers conduct a calculated effort towards understanding stakeholders and the ways in which to inculcate their demands to ensure the success of an event. Stakeholder analysis in event management is a tricky affair as this is a one-off occasion. Hence, there is no any other chance to make stakeholders happy. For example, major events such as the World Cup or the marriage of high ranking individuals (e.g. the Prince of England) call for me ticulous planning to ensure they are successful and meet the expectations of all interested individuals (Allen et al. 2011). Relationship between Event Management and Stakeholders As noted earlier, stakeholders are a crucial part of the success of an event. Certain benefits accrue from the inclusion of certain stakeholders in an event. It is also crucial to note that not all stakeholders contribute positively towards an event. It follows that stakeholders need to be evaluated to remove distracters that hide in the name of stakeholders and interested parties. It is also the cardinal responsibility of an event manager to know the various stakeholders and determine their relevance regarding the success of an event (Stanford, 2012). The following benefits may be realized through inclusion of relevant stakeholders in event management. The opinions of some stakeholders are crucial to the success of an event. For example, when planning a wedding for a high profile individual, it would be c rucial to listen to renowned designers, hoteliers, security experts, and Public Relations experts. These individuals may be interested in the event for monetary or business gains, but may provide the much-needed input to ensure that the event is a success.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Others are purely motivated by critical innuendos and it is the responsibility of the event manager to indentify right and wrong criticism (Stanford, 2012). Some stakeholders reign in great resources. Sometimes, such resources are what the event manager s requires to ensure that an event is a success. For example, if England wanted to hold the world cup, it would be crucial to engage with the renowned football clubs, which have excellent stadia to be used during the event. The event managers would also engage with the government to provide the needed security machinery to make the event a success. Hence, it is vital to indentify the stakeholders resourceful standing may be crucial in the success of an event (Allen et al. 2011). Communicating with stakeholders is part of engagement between event manager s and stakeholders. Communication of the progress and parameters of success of an event is crucial to mitigate expectations and to receive supplementary feedback. However, not all events require constant communication while others need constant and sustained communication if they are to be successful. For example, invited guests to a high profile wedding would require having the venue and schedules. Additionally, events such as world cups require prior timetables for matches prepared. This way, the stakeholders know what to expect and can therefore plan. It also forms the basis for the success of the event (Allen et al. 2011). Ris ks of Not Conducting a Stakeholder Analysis The relationship between stakeholders and the success of an event as outlined above highlights the importance of a stakeholder analysis. It also points to the risks of not conducting such an analysis. One of the major risks of the failure to conduct a proper stakeholder analysis is the possibility of not understanding the host community well. It would be disastrous to serve beef in an Indian wedding. This would also point out the event manager’s failure to understand that in Indian culture cows are worshipped as gods.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Stakeholder Analysis in Event Management specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More There are certain steps that are followed in the stakeholder analysis. These steps are crucial in the identification of the stakeholders, prioritizing them according to the level of importance, and understanding them. When an event manager skips th is all-important process, the three indentified items are skipped or conducted in a haphazard manner. This may result in disastrous results (Miller, 1998). Additionally, this procedural negligence may reflect badly on the event organizers. It is crucial to note, however, that there is not any universally accepted way of approaching events management. Failure to conduct a stakeholder’s analysis may also results in an event full of hitches. Such an event will attract a lot of criticism once it is completed. For example, although this may not be the case, the Boston Marathon shooting is a negative reflection on the organizers. It will remain etched on the minds of all the other stakeholders whether they participated or learnt about it in the news. All other marathon organizers will mention this in boardrooms every time they are looking at the aspect of security. The aforementioned factors points out the risky nature of a one off event. The fact that some events take a lot of tim e before they are repeated may have some lasting reflections on an event that flops. Hence, it is the responsibility of the organizers to ensure that a proper stakeholder’s analysis is conducted before an event to ensure it is successful (Allen et al. 2011). Real-Life Event of the Concept of Stakeholder Analysis The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is an example of a real life event that required a careful process of analyzing the stakeholders. For starters, the wedding was a high profile affair involving one of the oldest British families. The wedding was also touching on the very core of the British tradition. The prince of England who would take the throne if the queen were to die was marrying.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More The stakeholders were numerous. The stakes were high and interests were through the sky. Managing such an event required careful planning. The stakeholders had to be meticulously filtered to retain the quite crucial ones (Capra, 2002). One such stakeholder was the governments. The United Kingdom government had to come up with a high stakes list of the high profile individuals to make the list of guests. The questions that lingered prominently in the event manager’s mind was whom do I include and who do skip from this list? Although the event was a two people affair, the ripples would be felt even in the diplomatic circles. Additionally, this may go a long way in entrenching British relationships with global partners. The other stakeholders were fashion enthusiasts. This group had their tongues wagging months before the main event. From which designer will Kate Middleton order her wedding dress? How will it look like? Is she going to disappoint? Numerous newspaper and magazine articles were dedicated towards this discussion. Engaging experts in the field would result in one of the most memorable fashion statements in the 21st century. A careless involvement may also ruin one of the major events in British history. Therefore, a middle ground had to be found (Allen et al. 2011). In light of the many guests, the high profile event, the global attention, and the fact that the event would end in a matter of hours, it was crucial to come up with a schedule reflective of protocols and comfort meticulously. To do this, the government had to be involved. Additionally, most of the guests in the list had to be informed of the events of the day to ensure they are not entangled in the intricate schedule (Allen et al. 2011). The above highlights reflect the intricacies of stakeholder analysis. Among other things, the one thing that stands out is the need to filter a large pool of interested stakeholders to a level reminiscent of the parameters of the event. The need f or communication also stands out quite starkly. Although an event may be small or big, this crucial aspect requires careful consideration. Failure to communicate may result in many hitches. It may also mean a harsh postmortem of the event once it is completed (Capra, 2002). References Allen, J. et al. (2011). Resp. Aircraft Operator Security Threats - Essay Example It is also the role of the airline baggage handler to scan all packages in a destination and allocate them to the suitable aircraft. Among these responsibilities, the airline baggage handlers are not expected to make any physical contact with the passengers, but in case they have anything to hand to them, they should first hand it to the staff in that aircraft, who are then allowed to hand it to the passengers. In this case, therefore, it was unethical for the airline baggage handler to give the phone directly to the passenger, and he should have handed it to the relevant authorities who include security officials, so that they would hand it to the passenger. This involves the transportation of prisoners by law enforcement officers in an aircraft. The law enforcement officer had not made prior knowledge of the transport to the authorities. This becomes an issue because prisoners and detainees are not treated the same in a flight. The difference requires some advance preparation by the authorities, so that the passengers do not feel threatened while in their flight. Normally, prisoners are the first to board the flight, and once they are settled, the other passengers can board the flight. In this case, the officers ought to have informed the authorities, and their credentials should not act as a way to allow the prisoners in the flight. For this reason, they are entitled to catch the next flight according to the clearly laid rules. The airline is privy to information regarding the prisoners, and the nature of the crimes that they have committed so that the airline decides on the treatment they will be accorded. This concerns the commotion caused by a drunken unruly passenger who is trying to open an emergency exit in flight. It is clear that such a passenger has a possibility of causing harm to himself and the airline will be responsible. The most ethical action to take in this

Argument-driven essay Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Argument-driven essay - Research Paper Example Sadly, both ideologies set back the feminist cause by a number of years due to the way the satire has become not only a part of pop culture, but a part of the ideology of our society. That is why I am writing this paper with the full intention of exposing the damage done by the skit to the post-feminist ideologies and the various ways that feminism is portrayed in the political arena. My main argument is that the show has done irreparable damage to the image of women as future political leaders of the world in ways that one could never have imagined to be possible. It was Durham and Keller who mentioned the relation of media to popular culture in their book Media and Cultural Studies: Keywords. They explained that: â€Å"Forms of media culture like television film, popular music, magazines, and advertising provide role and gender models, fashion hints, lifestyle images, and icons of personality. The narratives of media culture offer patterns of proper and improper behavior, moral me ssages, and ideological conditioning, sugar coating social and political ideas with pleasurable and seductive forms of popular entertainment† (Durham & Keller, xv). ... They managed to make fun of one woman, while clearly exalting the other in what turned out to be a simultaneous process for the two actors. Tina Fey characterized Sara Palin like a red-neck hillbilly who got to where she was in life solely because luck was on her side. The woman, from the portrayal of Fey, is shown to be blessed to have been in the right place at the right time, which is why it did not matter that she was weak when it came to political matters. It was expected of her since she came from the Alaskan backwoods. It was a stroke of luck and opportunity that afforded her the chance to get ahead politically without really having to pay her dues towards the support of the post feminism political agenda. On the other hand, Amy Pohler portrayed Hillary Clinton as a clear supporter of the post-feminist agenda meant to strengthen the political station of women in our society. The strength and weaknesses of both women were highly played up during the skit which is why the public came to view Sara Palin as a joke who just got lucky in the world of politics while Hillary worked very hard to get the respect and acceptance that she deserved in the political arena. The ideology that the skit promoted the perception that â€Å"... all cultural texts have distinct biases, interests, and embedded values, reproducing the point of view of their producers and often, the values of the dominant social groups. â€Å" (Durham & Kelner, xiv). Clearly, the skit anted to promote the post-feminist cause in the skit. But they were not sure as to which message they wanted to clearly share which is why they tried to the fair thing and simply put both post-feminist ideologies out there for society to decide upon. These

The Importance of Setting in Developing a Theme for Wuthering Heights b

When Emily Bronte wrote Wuthering Heights England was going through a time of great change. It?s past agrarian society was changing and the common man was able to obtain wealth. Setting helps us to further understand the conflict between the natural world and cultured humanity, through the two main houses in text, and the social situation on the English Moors. Wuthering Heights uses this time of social unrest to develop the theme of the natural world in conflict with cultured humanity. An example of the natural world is the house, Wuthering Heights which the text is named after. It is a place of violent emotion inside, and violent weather outside. The narrator, Lockwood describes it through the medium of his diary ?pure bracing ventilation they must have up there.? It is located up on the Yorkshire Moors and away from society, its isolation from the cultured world aides the violence and mistreatment that occurs to its inhabitants. To the reader, the Heights and its inhabitants show the dangers and severe turbulence of the natural world. The Moors, where the Heights is situated shows us the danger and unpredictability of nature. The narrator, Lockwood is caught in a storm ?sky and hills mingled in one bitter whirl of wind and suffocating snow? at the start of the novel and the setting of the moors has a big impact on the story from there hereafter it is a place ?where human beings, like the trees, grow gnarled and dwarfed and distorted by the inclement climate. ? In contrast with the Heights, is the house at Thrushcross Grange which represents cultured humanity. The house is typical of the time, however to Catherine and Heathcliff (from the Heights) the inhabitants seem silly, petted and spoiled. It is described as ?... ...in the novel behaves as though he has seen her ghost himself. When Heathcliff dies, he is found in the bedroom with the window open, raising the possibility that Catherine's ghost entered Wuthering Heights just as Lockwood saw in his dream. At the end of the novel, Nelly Dean reports that various superstitious locals have claimed to see Catherine and Heathcliff's ghosts roaming the moors. Lockwood, however, discounts the idea of "unquiet slumbers for those sleepers in that quiet earth." The reader is also given the impression of the natural worlds ?quiet earth? no longer struggling against the civilised world. Setting helped to develope the theme of nature in conflict with civilisation in the novel Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. We are shown both civilisation and nature through setting and the context of the novel helps us to further understand the conflict.

Henrik Ibsen- A Doll’s House

Henrik Ibsen was one of the most popular poet and dramatist in his time. He is considered as the father of modern realistic drama because he is responsible for the transition of the Romantic style going to modern realistic style of writing a play. The Norwegian playwright was born on Skien from Knud Ibsen and Marichen Altenburg, a relatively well-to-do merchant family. The family of Ibsen was one of oldest and distinguished family in their country. But the fortune of his family was taken away when he is going to its adulthood. Her mother turned to religion for support while his father financial situation was ruined because his father’s friend broke all connections with him and forced to bankruptcy in 1836 (Bellinger). Ibsen was motivated to go into playwriting by his mother. His mother was an enthusiastic painter and she loves theater. But because of situation of their family which was made them in to poverty, Ibsen at the age of 15 decided to go to Grimstad to be a pharmacist (Bellinger). In 1850, Ibsen goes to Christiania which is now called Oslo where he earned his journalistic writings in Heltberg. In this year also when his first written work was made and these were Catiline, a tragedy, which reflected the atmosphere of the revolutionary year of 1848, and The Burial Mound, written under the pseudonym of Brynjolf Bjarme. In 1858, returned to Christiania to apply his education in writing plays at Christiania’s National Theater and the same year when he married Suzannah Thoresen. All of the plays that were written by Ibsen were based on poverty and family problems. This was because on his past experience on his family. One of the plays that were written by Ibsen was the A Doll’s House. The said play, after being published received many criticisms about the traditional Victorian marriage. A Doll’s House-Critical Essay A Doll’s House was the first play that was written by Ibsen that has sensational effect on the audiences because it tackles on the norms of Victorian marriage. It is the most popular works that was written by Ibsen. The center of the story is about on Nora Helmer, who is the mother of the three children and the wife of Torvald Helemer who is a banker. The story is about on the marriage of the two characters that was ruined because the wife did not do her role as the mother and that she made an action that broke a law. The main points of Isben in his play were the family structure on his time and the way society thinks on the role of the father and the mother. The society in his time, after reading the play was patriarchal. It is very obvious because the play gives more importance on the male rather than equal opportunities. Ibsen designed the play in such a way that the audience can see the inequality of men and women as well the breakage of the norms in a marriage between husband and wife. The first secession of Nora in the society was when she committed a crime just to save the life of her wi fe.He was forced to forge the signature of his father so that he can borrow money that will be used for her husband’s treatment. The incidence showed that women can also make decision on their family and not the husband only. This is one of the norms in a Victorian marriage, were work, politics and decision are left from men while the household chores are women. The second secession of Nora in the society was when she decided to divorce her husband. In that time, divorce in never allowed by the society because it breaks the relationship of husband and wife. From the two secessions, it can be seen that the society dictates the relationship of a husband and wife and favors men. Nora secessions are very deliberate and thought out. She knows what society expects of her and continues to do what she feels is right despite them. Her secessions are used by Ibsen to show faults of society. Reference: Bellinger, Martha Fletcher. â€Å"A Short History of the Drama. † (1927). Novem ber 14, 2007 .
